- I am a construction worker who went back to school at 42 to become a teacher. I was tired of working with young people who had graduated high school, but had no applicable knowledge of their trade, government,or environment. I can't get a teaching job because I believe in teaching to individual needs and teaching how to learn rather than forcing rote memorization of insignificant facts down students' throats. We've taught too much what and have diminished the how, why and what if.
